About SMT Research Ltd
SMT Research Ltd, also known as SMT (Structure Monitoring Technology), designs software and electronics to monitor and evaluate the integrity and performance of commercial and residential buildings. Their solutions utilize real-time sensor analysis and remote data collection to improve efficiency, durability, and quality assurance in construction. Their Building Intelligence platform has been deployed in a wide range of buildings, from simple wood frame homes to complex skyscrapers, shopping centers, heritage buildings, art museums, and more.
My Contributions
- Implemented a battery-less RF power harvesting wireless system for structural monitoring. Conducted antenna simulations using CST and HFSS and developed a wireless range simulator using MATLAB.
- Pioneered custom RFID passive sensor tags for remote data logging and locating hidden sensor positions. Simulated prototype circuits in LTSpice and designed PCBs using KiCAD. Performed rigorous validation tests in lab environments and active construction sites.
- Installed sensors and data acquisition systems in active construction sites and provided technical support to technicians.
- Debugged and qualified PCBs before sending them out to customers, following IPC-610 standards for PCB acceptance.
- Validated RF propagation through various roof assemblies using Lime-SDR radio.
